FIRST APPOINTMENT
If its your first appointment, come in good time as you don’t want to be in a panic, hot and sweaty on arrival. Always arrive clean and sweet but if you do require an intimate wipe, please ask.
Due to Covid-19, you are sent your Covid-19 Form and Consultation Form by email. This can be completed on your smartphone, tablet or desktop. This must be completed ahead of your appointment so if there any queries, I can discuss them with you before your treatment commences. I will be running to a tight schedule to try to prevent clashing with the next client. There are no drinks available or magazines to go through but there is a seating area with alcohol gel to be used prior to entering the room.
WHAT TO WEAR
Bring clean underwear and something loose to wear on the treated area afterwards so your skin can stay cool and protect from UV exposure - a must to minimise after wax reactions or keep your tan in mint condition.
TRIAL
If you’re planning a holiday, a wedding or any other special occasion it’s best to try out waxing and tanning in advance so you can ensure it’s right for you. Also, you can follow the aftercare of exfoliation and moisturising to make sure you don’t have any extreme reactions (this is very rare but if you do get a reaction, you must notify me within 24 hours).
Most importantly, to time it right so your next wax and tan gives you the great results you want for your big event.
AFTER a WAX, TAKE A BREAK from…
If you’re a Gym Bunny, run or you love to swim, you’ll want to avoid these activities after your wax. Keep the waxed area clean, and avoid heat, sweat and friction during the next 24 - 48 hours and do not scratch or touch the treated area with unwashed hands. Wait at least 48 hours after your wax treatment to do the below as you will want to gauge how your skin reacts after waxing, If you do have any reactions, you must let me know within 24 hours.
No tanning or UV exposure (sun bathing, sun beds, fake tans)
No Sex
No Saunas, hot tubs, massage or steam treatments
No hot baths or showers (cool to lukewarm water only)
No Sweating
No Swimming
No Sport, Gym or other exercise
Do not touch the waxed area without cleansed hands
To soothe and protect the skin, you can apply an antiseptic cream to the waxed area regularly for 3 days following your treatment and always wash your hands before applying any product. After 3 days, once you’ve bathed/showered, apply some soothing lotion to the waxed area.
Moisturise every day to keep the skin supple and help new hairs to grow through normally. Don’t exfoliate too much or too rough as this can graze the skin and actually cause ingrown hairs.
WHY?
Waxing removes hair from the root leaving you with open pores. If you pop down the gym, expose your skin to high heat or get a sweat on too soon after a wax you are likely to get a reaction like a rash/fricton burn, itchiness or even some spotiness.
TANNING
Avoid UV exposure for at least 48 hours after being waxed (including sun beds) and then always use a high SPF to protect your skin. Wait at least 48 hours after waxing or 24 hours after shaving before having a sunless tan (spray tan), if you don't your tan will absorb straight into the open pores and may leave you dotty, possible get spotty and it may ruin your spray tan.
EXFOLIATE & MOISTURISE
I recommend a light exfoliation before the wax treatment. This will get aid getting rid of dead skin cells which will help free up any ingrown hair therefore, giving you a better result. I love using a Dry Exfoliating Brush or Ruff Stuff Daily Scrub for this. After 72 hours, start exfoliating two to three times per week before you hop into the shower and bath then moisturise daily to keep the skin supple and help new hairs to grow normally. Don't overdo the exfoliating though, as too rough and hard can actually graze the skin and cause ingrown hairs. You know your skin - just keep a good balance and let me know at your next appointment how your aftercare has been going.
RELAX
Believe it or not, a wax treatment should be a relaxing experience but if you are ultra-sensitive, you may want to try Perron Rigot’s Pre Cooling Gel. This can be applied 45mins before and takes out the ‘Ouch’ factor. You can purchase this prior to your treatment from the Studio.
Caffeine & alcohol
Also, caffeine and alcohol (amongst other things) can heighten sensitivity, making your wax treatment a tad 'ouchy' so watch out for soft or energy drinks containing caffeine or drinking too strong a coffee or alcohol prior to your treatment.
Alcohol - If you have a hangover or have drank alcohol the night before attending your waxing appointment, your wax maybe a bit more 'smarty' than usual so watch out for heavy sessions the night before your appointment and let me know as a lot of people think 'oh I'll have a drink before I go for my wax to help relax me'...Don't! Actually alcohol makes the wax harder for you (and I). Blood rushes to the surface, increasing sensitivity, dehydrates you and your skin and increases the chance of bruising, blood spot and reactions so save the alcohol until for afterwards and avoid for 24 hours prior to waxing - Save it for ‘happy hour’!
CHANGES
At each appointment, you must update any changes to your lifestyle, no matter how minor or irrelevant you may think they are. It is important as Covid-19, vaccinations, health issues, dietary changes, medication, sunbathing, skincare, vitamin supplements including herbal, alcohol, stress, pregnancy etc. may have an affect on your treatment, times and its results.
HAPPY ENDINGS?
To be clear - Kittys and Dickys does not offer 'happy endings'; I am strictly a professional waxer & tanner. The only happy ending is checking the bank at the end of the day! On a serious note though, I don't like to offend so please don't ask as the response will be be very blunt and I’ll cease to be your therapist
